I love narbacular drop, portal, exite, sex, physics, hacking tuff and dreamcast... and hacking dreamcast...
Did you know that the maximum number of characters allowed in a signature is 50 000 ? And I'm using 1252 in my signature !!!

Absolutely not about your dream, I just wanted a portal that looks like a HOLE in the wall, but since it was not really sexy, i've added a lil' rim to do a transition. In fact, I think you weren't even on the forum (under the [FPS]SETH name, maybe you were as superdinoman ..) when I've created thoses, it took me a while before releasing...

Well... 2 minutes on the textures and 2 hours on the normal map ( made by hand to be sure it looks clean ! tongue.gif )


Theses were first created like 2 weeks after the alpha1 release and released 1 month after it with some lil modifications.

Well, I created it by hand AND learned everything about normal maps at the same time ... create/test in game, modify/test ingame, etc ...

ah..

did you know about painting the normal in black and white(a height map) then letting vtfedit translate that to normal map? That is a VERY useful trick.

Well, "NOW" I know about this and I got the Nvidia normal maps tools too,

But when I first created my hole-like clean-looking, I learned about normal maps by looking at some already done normal maps! (kind of reverse engeneering, but way easier) and them figured out wich background to make with wich ind of alpha channel for what I want and how to make the edges a lil refractives ...

Long but constructive time !! I learned a lot of things this way, from potato gun's explosions to mathematics ...
